Put a Pin it button in your sidebar - particularly if you are linking in to Food on Friday or Books You Loved

To make it easier for me to pin the recipes on your blog to the Food on Friday pinboards, please put a pin it button on your sidebar.  This is how you do it.

You need to go to your Dashboard and then to Layout and add a gadget - the one you want is Configure HTML/Java Script.

This was the code I used:

<a href='javascript:void((function()%7Bvar%20e=document.createElement(&apos;script&apos;);e.setAttribute(&apos;type&apos;,&apos;text/javascript&apos;);e.setAttribute(&apos;charset&apos;,&apos;UTF-8&apos;);e.setAttribute(&apos;src&apos;,&apos;http://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r=&apos;+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)%7D)());'><img alt='Pin It' onclick='doPinIt();' src='http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr300/blogsbyheather/PinIt.png' style='margin: 0 0 0 0;'/></a>

One last point, if your post doesn't have at least one reasonably sized image, Pinterest won't let me pin it.

  1. I read your post whenever new posts coming. Really helpful. Thanks!
    After adding the code does that mean only once and it will appear in each post I draft? Is yes, where actually it appear? Only at the end of the post?

    I looking at 'pin it' button appear at some photos in my post setting. Thanks!

    1. Hi Vivian - thanks for your comment - I have put the pin it into a sidebar gadget so it is always there and you can use it to pin any post you have open (ie not just on your home page). You could put it into each post by copying the code in at the end on the html screen - but that is a lot of hard work - you may be able to find a way to have it appear automatically at the end of each post but I don't know how to do that yet! Maybe someone will explain it to us both. Have a great week.

  2. I took your advice and not only does it make it easier for YOU, it makes it much easier for ME to add all blog's recipes to Pinterest :)

  3. Carole, you have the most fantastic timing! I was planning on trying to figure out how to do this today, and thanks to you, now I know how! I was clicking over to say thank you for your kind words about my button (you're a "no reply" blogger, so I couldn't email you back). So glad I popped over!

  4. PS: I just took a look, and on blogger you can get it to automatically appear at the end of each post. Here's how: go to "Settings" then to "Posts and comments." Paste the code (and anything else you want to show up in every blog post) in the box that says "Post template" then click "save settings," and you're good to go.

    1. Thanks, Monica - I just tried this but it didn't work. Must have been doing something wrong. I'll keep working at it.

    2. I hope you get it to work. It appears to be working for me, so I don't think you need a different code. Computers can be so fussy though sometimes!

  5. Thanks for liking my lamb, but I couldn't add a Pin It button to my sidebar. I'm sippitysup on Pinterest if that helps. I have a Pin It button on my dashboard of my desktop which lets me pin any site whether they have a pin it button or not. GREG
