Pinning is now so easy ...

I am probably the last person on the planet to work this out ... but just in case.  Up til now I have been pinning stuff by either using the blog's pin it buttons in their posts, if they have one, or by manually adding a pin in Pinterest.

And today, by accident, while I was reading a comment I suddenly realised you could put a Pin It button onto your browser toolbar.  I Googled Pinterest toolbar button and got to this Pinterest page.  I am incredibly embarrassed by how easy it was to do - and how much quicker I can now pin entries to Food on Friday etc....

As you will see if you follow the link, all you have to do is right click the image, push add to Favourites, Favourites Bar and there it will be.  Easy peasy.

Have you checked that your Pin It buttons are working lately?

When I was pinning entries to the latest Food on Friday, I kept finding Pin It buttons that weren't working properly - they wouldn't find the image or title for the post.  This makes it a lot harder for people to pin your work.

I suggest you go to one of your posts and test this out.  If it isn't working properly you need to change the code you are using for the button.  I have posted about this here.  This is the code I used on Carole's Chatter and it seems to be working fine.

Would you like a custom signature for each post?

Pin It

If you would like to create a custom signature for each post, then head over to A Little Unhinged who has done a useful post on how you go about it.  This is the link.  Thanks for the permission to refer to this, Gwen.

I haven't done this myself yet - I'm not sure yet if I want to.  As you know, I am a bit minimalist about my blog design.  It is all about the content, after all, isn't it??

PS  Another little tip - did you notice that the Pin it button is underneath the first image?  If you don't put the image first you will find that your post shows up in your followers' dashboards with only the Pin it button as the image - which isn't very attractive.

Put a Pin it button in your sidebar - particularly if you are linking in to Food on Friday or Books You Loved

To make it easier for me to pin the recipes on your blog to the Food on Friday pinboards, please put a pin it button on your sidebar.  This is how you do it.

You need to go to your Dashboard and then to Layout and add a gadget - the one you want is Configure HTML/Java Script.

This was the code I used:

<a href='javascript:void((function()%7Bvar%20e=document.createElement(&apos;script&apos;);e.setAttribute(&apos;type&apos;,&apos;text/javascript&apos;);e.setAttribute(&apos;charset&apos;,&apos;UTF-8&apos;);e.setAttribute(&apos;src&apos;,&apos;http://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r=&apos;+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)%7D)());'><img alt='Pin It' onclick='doPinIt();' src='http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr300/blogsbyheather/PinIt.png' style='margin: 0 0 0 0;'/></a>

One last point, if your post doesn't have at least one reasonably sized image, Pinterest won't let me pin it.
